Masyn Winn’s parents, Tiffany Rawson and Earl C. Luckett, played vital roles in shaping his life and baseball career. He rose to become a standout shortstop for the St. Louis Cardinals, making his MLB debut in 2023.
He credits his success to his mother’s unwavering support and stepfather’s mentorship. His family’s dedication helped fuel his early passion for the sport and build the foundation for his success.
Masyn played for USA Baseball’s under-15 National Team and was named the MVP of the COPABE Pan American AA Championships. The St. Louis Cardinals drafted him in the second round of the 2020 Major League Baseball draft.
On August 18, 2023, he was promoted to the major leagues for the first time, making him the youngest Cardinals player to make his MLB debut at the starting shortstop position since Garry Templeton.
Masyn Winn’s Mother Solely Raised Him
Tiffany Rawson, Masyn Winn’s mother, has been a consistent pillar in his life. She raised five children, often on her own, while working as a technology director for a mutual fund company.
Rawson saw signs of Masyn’s gifted nature early. He spoke the word “momma” at just 5½ months and was having full conversations with his siblings by the time he was one year old.
She managed a hectic household, juggling school and more than 100 combined baseball games in one spring when four of her children played on different teams.
Moreover, she was instrumental in Masyn’s development both as a young man and a player. On his bobblehead day, it was his mom who threw the ceremonial first pitch to him—an emotional moment for both.
Rawson also gave Masyn his unique middle name, Blaze, which follows a family theme of color-inspired names. His brothers’ middle names are Sky, Jade, and Gray.
Stepfather Earl Luckett Was His Mentor
Masyn Winn was only eight years old when Tiffany married Earl Luckett. It proved to be a turning point in his development. Earl wasn’t just a father figure; he became Masyn’s coach, mentor, and biggest supporter.
Luckett runs Team Houston Baseball, an elite youth baseball program, and has decades of coaching experience. His team has won hundreds of championships and earned national rankings.
He began coaching in 1989 at Anderson High School in Austin, later volunteering at Forest Brook High School, and eventually founding several select teams including the Houston Lumberjacks, Dynasty Jacks, and Negro League Legends.
It was Earl who introduced Masyn to USA Baseball, where he starred on the U-12 and U-15 national teams, putting him on the radar for MLB scouts.
In one instance, Luckett moved Masyn to the outfield during a drill so scouts could better see his powerful throwing arm. Masyn affectionately called him “Coach Lucky” at the ballpark and “Pops” at home.
Tiffany credited Earl’s role in shaping Masyn’s career.
I don’t think Masyn would have made it without Lucky in his life. Sports and baseball are male-dominated sports, and Lucky helped to make the right decisions for Masyn and he pushed him in ways he needed. A lot of times the best players just kind of skate by, but he pushed Masyn to be better. I just don’t know if Masyn would have made it if [Luckett] hadn’t been in our lives.
Furthermore, Masyn loved baseball while growing up, but it was Luckett who made it special for him. Luckett is everything for the Cardinals’ shortstop, and he’s the best coach he’s ever had.
Masyn Winn And His Four Siblings
Masyn Winn grew up in a large and supportive family with four siblings: Brandyn, Dustyn, Jasmyn, and Kevyn.
Brandyn Harris is a Lenovo Acquisition Account Executive and formerly worked as a Senior Account Executive at Dell. He’s also a roving coach for Team Houston Baseball. He graduated from Kingwood High School and joined Austin Community College.
Jazmyn Johnson played women’s basketball at the University of Portland, where she majored in business. She now works as a Sales and Marketing Coordinator at Willis Permian Movers Inc. She is married with two children.
Meanwhile, his two older siblings, Kevyn and Dustyn Deshaw, have kept a lower profile.
In addition to his siblings, Masyn shares a strong bond with his stepbrother, Nick Luckett, who plays college baseball at Southern University. Nick is a sophomore right-handed pitcher majoring in Education, and the two remain close.
