Cole Tucker Is A Former Professional Baseball Shortstop
Cole Tucker had a career that spanned over a decade, taking him from a first-round draft pick to multiple MLB organizations before his retirement in 2025.
He grew up as a fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks and attended Mountain Pointe High School. His talent earned him a spot on the United States national baseball team in the 2013 18U Baseball World Cup.
Initially, Tucker committed to playing college baseball at the University of Arizona.
However, he chose to pursue a professional career when the Pittsburgh Pirates selected him in the first round (24th overall) of the 2014 MLB Draft.
He signed with the Pirates for a $1.8 million bonus and began his pro career in the Gulf Coast League. After years of development in the minors, he made his MLB debut on April 20, 2019, against the San Francisco Giants.
Though he showed flashes of potential, Tucker struggled to secure a permanent role in Pittsburgh. On June 5, 2022, he was claimed off waivers by his childhood team, the Arizona Diamondbacks, but spent most of his time with their Triple-A affiliate, the Reno Aces.
After becoming a free agent, he signed minor league deals with the Colorado Rockies in 2022 and later the Seattle Mariners in 2024. When he didn’t make the Mariners’ roster, he joined the Los Angeles Angels on another minor league contract.
However, on May 20, 2025, Tucker announced his retirement from professional baseball.
Tucker’s relationship with actress Vanessa Hudgens drew attention, as she frequently supported him at games during his time with the Pirates and beyond.
I’ve gone to a lot of games, way more than I have in my entire life condensed into a year. I love going and supporting and cheering him on.
