The Chet Hanks Eric Andre feud is back in the headlines. Over the weekend, Chet Hanks came face to face with comedian Eric André at ComplexCon in Los Angeles. The tense exchange was caught on video and posted by Hanks himself. As a result, security stepped between the two men.

In the clip, Hanks walks up behind André at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Then he taps him on the shoulder. André turns around and at first seems happy to see him. But the mood shifts fast. André looks confused. He can be heard asking, “What are you talking about?” as Hanks speaks to him. Security guards move in. André then walks away — but not before shouting “Tom Hanks” over his shoulder. It was a parting dig at his rival’s famous father, according to Reality Tea.

What Happened at ComplexCon

Hanks posted the video to Instagram with a long caption. In it, he lays out his version of events. He claims André acted as if he had no memory of criticizing him in the press. This was after their infamous 2023 show taping. Hanks also claims André admitted the real sore spot was Hanks’ Jamaican accent bit from years ago. André supposedly saw it as mocking Caribbean culture.

However, note what the video itself actually shows — and what it does not. Much of Hanks’ dialogue is hard to hear. So viewers are largely taking his word for how the talk went. What is clear is that the approach was a surprise. The exchange was brief and heated. It ended with security separating them. André has not responded to the video as of this writing. For now, then, this is a one-sided account.

The confrontation was first reported by Consequence. Clips have been spreading fast across social media ever since.

Chet Hanks vs. Eric André: A Feud Timeline

This run-in did not come out of nowhere. The bad blood stretches back more than three years. Here is how it unfolded:

  • 2023: Chet Hanks guests on season 6 of The Eric André Show. He leans into the show’s chaotic format with his polarizing impressions.
  • March 2023: André tells Rolling Stone the taping was a nightmare. He calls Hanks “emotionally disturbed.” He claims Hanks stole a motorcycle and rode it around the studio. He says crew members were nearly knocked off ladders. Hanks has always disputed this version.
  • Spring 2023: Hanks fires back on Instagram. He says he was only matching the show’s wild energy. He accuses André of being rattled because a guest outshined him on his own show.
  • 2023: In an interview with The Independent, André dares Hanks to confront him in person. His words: “say it to my face.”
  • October 2026: At ComplexCon, Hanks finally takes him up on it. He posts the video. André walks off with the “Tom Hanks” parting shot.

André’s Side: The “Emotionally Disturbed” Claim

André has held his line for three years. He says the real chaos happened off camera. In his Rolling Stone interview, he called Hanks the wildest guest the show ever booked. He said the crew felt wrecked by the experience. He also joked that he doubted Hanks was really Tom Hanks’ son. That jab clearly stuck around, given this weekend’s parting shot.

Meanwhile, André’s anarchic comedy keeps finding new fans. He is headed to the big screen next in the Street Fighter movie, playing ring announcer Don Sauvage.

Hanks’ Side: “Matching the Energy”

Hanks’ defense has never changed. The Eric André Show is built on mayhem, he says. He was simply playing along. He has also framed André’s criticism as sour grapes from a host who got upstaged. For example, he points to his steady acting work as proof he is a pro. He plays Travis Bugg on Netflix’s sports comedy Running Point. He is also set to appear in the thriller Lone Wolf. In addition, his chaos-comedy style has famous company. British comic Sophie Duker built a career on the same kind of unhinged panel-show energy.

What’s Next for the Chet Hanks–Eric André Feud?

So where does this go from here? The viral video has both names trending again. On the other hand, that is exactly how celebrity feuds tend to work — as unofficial promotion. Public spats have become their own entertainment genre. Think of messy splits like Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s divorce. Or the rumor cycles that swirl around stars like Madison Beer.

Neither camp has hinted at legal action. So this looks like a war of words, not a courtroom battle. But feuds like this tend to flare up when someone has a project to promote. Both men have new work on the way. If history is any guide, the next chapter will play out the same way. It will unfold on Instagram, in interviews, and in front of cameras.

One thing is certain — the “say it to my face” dare has now been answered. Finally, the only question left is whether André will respond, and how. We will update this article if either side comments further.

Was Hanks right to confront André in person? Or should this feud have stayed in 2023? Drop your take in the comments.
