Brazilian actress and singer Lua Blanco is dead at 39. Her family confirmed the news on Sunday, October 18, 2026. The Rebelde Brasil star had passed away in Rio de Janeiro. At 39, Roberta Messi to a generation of fans, she lost a private, months-long battle with cancer. She died surrounded by the love of her family and close friends. Their one final request: privacy in mourning.

Blanco had kept her illness almost entirely out of the public eye. Only days earlier, she had posted a photo album on social media. It traced her life from childhood to adulthood, captioned simply “Momentos de gratidão” — moments of gratitude.

Lua Blanco Dead at 39: What Her Family Said

The announcement came from her brother, actor Daniel Blanco, on Instagram. On behalf of the Blanco family, he said their beloved sister Lua Maria Blanco had been fighting cancer for months. She was surrounded by loved ones and had gone, he wrote, “in peace, filled with love and with the full faith that she was going straight into God’s hands.” The family deliberately chose not to share further medical details. It has asked everyone else to refrain from speculating.

Those are the family’s own words: a private battle, a peaceful passing, and a request that the mourning be theirs.

Arthur Aguiar’s Farewell: An 11-Year Rift Mended Just in Time

The day’s most wrenching tribute came from someone who learned the news in the cruelest way possible. Arthur Aguiar was mid-livestream with fans when viewers began telling him she had died. He is Blanco’s Rebelde co-star — and her onetime real-life boyfriend. He cut the broadcast short, then posted a farewell on Instagram Stories. It has since been shared across Brazil.

He reposted a photo from February 2024, the last time the two saw each other. “Essa foi a última vez que a gente se viu,” he wrote — “that was the last time we saw each other. How good that we got to talk and say everything while she was still alive.” He closed: “May God receive you with open arms and comfort the hearts of everyone who remains.”

Aguiar and Blanco fell in love during the filming of Rebelde. On screen they were Diego Maldonado and Roberta Messi, one of the show’s central couples. Off screen they dated for about seven months in 2011–2012, earning the fan nickname “LuAr.” After the split came roughly eleven years of silence.

The ice broke in late 2023. On November 4 of that year, the two sat down for a long lunch. As Blanco later put it, they talked as if no time had passed since their eleven silent years. She posted their reunion photo in February 2024 — “Botando papo em dia,” catching up on everything. It turned out to be their final meeting.

Lua Blanco’s Career Timeline: From Roberta Messi to the Rebeldes Band

Blanco was born into music royalty — the granddaughter of celebrated Brazilian composer Billy Blanco. She grew up among five siblings, studied Literature at PUC, and spent two childhood years in Peru. But it was television that made her a household name.

2011–2012: Roberta Messi. Cast as Roberta Messi on Record TV’s Rebelde, Blanco headlined 410 episodes. The Brazilian take on the Latin American teen phenomenon made her one of Brazil’s most recognizable young stars.

2011–2013: The Rebeldes band. She fronted the show’s real-life band with her co-stars. The numbers tell you what the series meant to a generation: roughly 90 arena shows across Brazil, more than 1.2 million spectators, one gold album, two platinum, and a double-platinum release.

The honors. Nine Shorty Award nominations and a Vox Populi win. In a 2012 televised vote, she was named the 71st-greatest Brazilian of all time. Few markers say more about how deeply Rebelde’s audience held her.

Beyond Rebelde. She kept working steadily. TV brought Malhação, Três Irmãs, Pecado Mortal, and A Força do Querer. She presented TV Globinho and competed on Globo’s Popstar in 2018. On stage, she starred in O Despertar da Primavera and A Noviça Rebelde. She also made music with her siblings in the family band Lágrima Flor. And she was attached to an upcoming film, The Fox Sisters.

Lua Blanco’s Wake: A Private Family Farewell

Blanco was laid to rest on Monday, October 19, in a private ceremony at Capela 06 of the Cemitério Vertical Memorial do Carmo in Rio de Janeiro. The wake ran from 1 PM to 4 PM Rio time and was restricted to family and close friends — closed to the public and fans.

Her Rebelde Brasil castmates were there to say goodbye: Chay Suede, Sophia Abrahão, Mel Fronckowiak, Micael Borges, and Arthur Aguiar attended, alongside Bia Arantes, Thalita Ribeiro, Letícia Colin, Maria Ribeiro, Hugo Bonemer, Beni Falcone, Malu Rodrigues, and Tathi Bione. Her cousin Ema Blanco spoke to Quem about Lua’s unshakable faith — that she trusted in God’s plan until the very end. The family has not released details about the burial.

Tributes Pour In From Across Brazilian Television

Sophia Abrahão, who acted alongside Blanco on Rebelde, wrote simply: “Recebam todo o meu amor” — receive all my love. Larissa Manoela, Alice Wegmann, Micael Borges, and Mel Fronckowiak also publicly mourned.

She is joining the site’s memorial roundup of the celebrities we lost in 2026. She belongs alongside the year’s other fallen stars. For the fans who grew up on Rebelde Brasil, she was never just a character. She was the voice of their teenage years. Lua Blanco was 39.
