What Happened To Coliesa McMillian?

Port Allen native Coliesa McMillian underwent gastric bypass surgery as part of her treatment plan. She wanted it to aid her in getting her life on track, but her health began to deteriorate rapidly, which made her journey all more difficult.

Although she didn’t lose enough weight to be approved for the surgery, Dr. Nowzaradan operated because he feared she could have a life-threatening intestinal blockage. She lost 150lbs.

However, she faced significant health issues after her surgery. According to her niece Blair, she suffered hemorrhaging. She was placed on a ventilator and was in a medically induced coma before briefly flatlining.

Unfortunately, Coliesa died on September 22, 2020, at the age of 41. Her family said her death was related to complications from her surgery and her underlying health problems.

The news broke the hearts of her fans, who rooted for her recovery. TLC Network shared their deepest condolence to her family during the difficult time.

Previously, she suffered a heart attack at 39 and called her heart a ticking time bomb. In the reality series, she expressed her heart gave out before an ambulance could arrive and that doctors were unable to operate on her because of her weight.

She knew food had taken over her life and wouldn’t survive another heart attack unless she lost weight.

I’m exhausted of this life. Living like this is not living. If I don’t lose this weight, I’m going to die. My heart could give out at any time. I can feel the weight weighing me down. It’s like my body’s trying to give up.

Coliesa was a fighter and a leader who made it back home after being on life support and almost dying in Houston in June 2020. Sadly, she was hospitalized again in August and is predicted to walk before Christmas 2020.

Nonetheless, her four daughters, Hannah and Sadie Gail Marie McMillian, Kadelynn Lee, and Victoria Noel Lee Courville. Her parents, Jerome and Sadie Courville named her Coliesa Kay Lee McMillian.
