Shane Tamura: What We Know About the Alleged NYC Shooter

Authorities have tentatively identified Shane Tamura, a 27-year-old from Las Vegas, as the suspect in Monday evening’s mass shooting at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.

According to law enforcement, Tamura entered the Blackstone-owned skyscraper armed with a .223-caliber AR-15-style rifle. Surveillance footage captured him carrying the weapon before opening fire inside the building.

Police have not yet released an official motive, but are investigating whether Tamura had any specific grievances related to the companies in the building.

Several reports suggest Tamura was a former high school football standout. He played as a running back and graduated from Granada Hills in 2016.

Some social media speculation has linked the attack to his alleged frustration over not making it to the NFL, given that the building houses the league’s headquarters. However, authorities have not confirmed this theory.

He reportedly held a concealed firearms permit, which the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department had issued in 2022. The rifle used in the attack was identified as a Palmetto State Armory AR-15, a budget model retailing for around $420.

The FBI and NYPD are continuing to investigate Tamura’s background, possible motives, and how he obtained the weapon.

As more details emerge, authorities are expected to release an official profile of the shooter. For now, the incident adds to the growing national debate over gun violence and security in corporate spaces.
