Chronic pain in her ankles and knees forced her to rely on a rollator for mobility, a decision she regrets not making sooner.
In April 2024, her condition worsened when she was hospitalized due to pneumonia, high blood pressure, and an elevated heart rate. Her disabilities have also impacted her career, making accessibility a constant concern.

She warns fans, “I will start blocking everyone who insists I still have COVID. These comments aren’t helpful, especially when the medical system ignores me.”
She described strangers’ constant fear-mongering as cruel and said she does her best to stay calm amid online negativity.
Recovery and Setbacks
At one point, Kimya’s health deteriorated so severely that she was consuming only 0–200 calories a day, leading to hospitalization.
With the help of a nutritionist and an eating disorder therapist, she slowly reintroduced food, starting with baby food before gradually testing solid foods.
A rheumatologist later diagnosed her with fibromyalgia, attributing the severe flare-up to trauma and stress from complications during hand surgery. Devastatingly, she was told she might never play guitar again.
Kimya’s struggles with physical and mental health are not new. In 1998, she survived an accidental overdose of whiskey and prescription pills on Christmas Day, suffering a grand mal seizure and vomiting blood.
Despite these hardships, Kimya continues to advocate for herself and others with disabilities, demonstrating resilience in the face of relentless challenges.
