Marvel’s Zodiac TV Show: Release Date, Plot & Everything We Know About the Disney+ Spy Thriller

Marvel’s Zodiac TV show is officially happening. Marvel Television used its New York Comic Con 2026 panel on October 7 to announce Zodiac. The spy thriller is coming to Disney+ in 2028, with production starting next year. For fans who feared Marvel’s small-screen universe was quietly shutting down, this reveal is the clearest sign yet of a new chapter.

The announcement landed after a brutal year for Marvel Television. In September, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Daredevil: Born Again will end with its third season, while Spider-Noir and Wonder Man were cancelled outright. Once the final Daredevil season streams in spring 2027, Marvel will have no live-action series left on its schedule — so Zodiac is the first project officially positioned to fill that gap.

What we know about the Marvel Zodiac TV show

Marvel Television opened its panel with a sizzle reel spanning WandaVision, Loki, Ironheart, and VisionQuest, plus the first footage from Daredevil: Born Again Season 3. Then came the surprise: the official announcement of Zodiac, a spy thriller for Disney+ in 2028, with production starting in 2027.

One detail grabbed fans right away: the show’s logo closely echoes the original S.H.I.E.L.D. insignia. That suggests the shadowy spy organization could anchor the story — or at least that Marvel wants viewers thinking about it. No cast, showrunner, or episode count has been announced yet. It is also unclear whether “Zodiac” is the final title or just a working name. An insider claimed in September that a new title will replace the codename, but Marvel has said nothing official.

Zodiac in the comics: a quick history

In Marvel Comics, Zodiac is a criminal organization built for a spy thriller. The group debuted in The Avengers #72 in 1970, founded and bankrolled by businessman Cornelius van Lunt as Taurus. Its twelve members each adopted a zodiac-sign persona and shared leadership, with the top spot rotating like the astrological calendar.

The most famous member is Scorpio. He debuted even earlier in Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 (1968). Scorpio wielded the Zodiac Key, a sentient extra-dimensional artifact. It could fire energy blasts and teleport across dimensions. In a twist straight out of a spy novel, Scorpio turned out to be Jake Fury — the brother of S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury. For example, Nick later impersonated Scorpio himself to infiltrate the group.

In short, Zodiac has spent decades as one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s classic comic-book enemies. That history makes the SHIELD-style logo for the Marvel Zodiac TV show look like more than a coincidence.

What the rumors say about the Marvel Zodiac TV show

Beyond the official news, unconfirmed reports paint an intriguing picture. Industry insiders describe an X-Files-style series with case-of-the-week storytelling. They also claim a TV-MA rating. One scooper added that the show is designed to fit “in the background of the MCU,” picking up storylines and characters not seen on screen for a while.

Fan speculation is already running wild. Some hope for a street-level story with figures like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Others think the procedural format could suit a mutant-of-the-week series as the MCU enters its Mutant Saga. For now, that is all guesswork — in fact, Marvel has confirmed no characters at all.

Meanwhile, reports say Marvel is moving a project codenamed Slumber Party into production. It is widely believed to be the long-rumored Young Avengers show. However, Zodiac remains the only confirmed series with an announced release window. That makes it the clearest window into Marvel Television’s future.

Why this announcement matters

Marvel Studios’ Disney+ strategy has visibly shifted. The era of five or six interconnected shows a year is over, replaced by a slower, more selective approach built around fewer, higher-stakes projects. Zodiac looks like the template: a genre-driven spy thriller with deep comic-book roots and a logo hinting at S.H.I.E.L.D.’s return.

If the X-Files-style rumors prove true, Zodiac could become the MCU’s answer to DC Studios’ Lanterns: a grounded mystery show apart from the multiverse spectacle of the films. With production starting in 2027, casting news should trickle out over the next year — giving fans something new to look forward to after a year of cancellations.
