The song she chose for the night says everything about her rise. “Great Expectation,” the fourth single from her debut album Visitor, climbed to number one on the UK Official Singles Chart in September and held the top spot for two weeks. That made Spiro the youngest British female artist to top the UK singles chart since Becky Hill did it back in 2014.

She wrote the track with producer Omer Fedi and hitmaker Michael Pollack. It started from a personal memory — waiting in New York for someone who kept promising to visit but never showed up — and grew into a piano-led pop-soul ballad about expectation itself.
