Ted Lasso Season 5: Everything We Know After the Season 4 Finale

Ted Lasso season 5 is the question on every fan’s mind tonight. The Season 4 finale, titled “Being Alive,” just landed on Apple TV on October 7, 2026 — and Apple still has not confirmed whether the beloved comedy will return. The good news? Almost everyone involved in making the show is talking like there is more story to tell.

Season 4 closed out a 10-episode run that began on August 5, bringing Ted back to Richmond to coach the club’s second-division women’s team, the Lady Greyhounds. The finale wrapped the season’s biggest arcs but left several doors open. So is this really the end? Here is everything we know.

Is Ted Lasso Season 5 Happening?

Officially, no. Apple has not announced a renewal. Unofficially, the signals point in a hopeful direction.

Before season 4 even premiered, Jason Sudeikis laid out his ambition in a July 2026 Hollywood Reporter cover story: another three-season arc — seasons 4 through 6 — built around the women’s team, the way the first three seasons were built around the men’s team. The writers were expected back in the room by late August 2026 to start mapping a season 5 nobody had ordered yet. Asked why he returned at all, Sudeikis kept it short: “I know I needed this.”

Apple’s executives sound open too. Programming chief Matt Cherniss told Deadline in July that Sudeikis is “looking to jump into the next season soon,” and services chief Eddy Cue told Screen Rant in August that the show deserves another season.

One comment rattled fans this week, however. Matt Lipsey, who directed the finale, called it the “final episode of this wonderful series” in an October 6 social media post — and speculation exploded overnight. Farewell for good, or just the end of season 4? That remains unanswered. TV Insider’s season 5 guide rounds up every renewal clue so far.

What the Cast Wants From Ted Lasso Season 5

If Apple says yes, the cast is ready. Rex Hayes (Siobhan) told Radio Times it would be “wonderful” if season 5 happened, while Aisling Sharkey (Niamh) jokingly urged fans to email Warner Bros. and Apple to demand more episodes. The pair even pitched a Siobhan-and-Niamh travel arc across Ireland, Spain, and Mexico.

Abbie Hern (Gemma) and Tanya Reynolds (Alice Chilton) also see plenty of runway, with Reynolds floating a flashback to the characters’ Arsenal days. Radio Times has the full set of cast pitches — and they make a strong case the ensemble is not done.

Where the Season 4 Finale Leaves Every Character

The finale did not tie everything in a neat bow. The biggest loss came a week earlier: Mae Green, the beloved pub owner played by Annette Badland, died off-screen in the penultimate episode. Our recap of Mae’s farewell breaks down that emotional goodbye.

Roy Kent’s future looks very different now. After reconciling with Keeley Jones — the two are expecting a baby — Roy has taken a head coach job at Chelsea, leaving Richmond behind. That sets up a ready-made rivalry: Richmond versus Chelsea, with Roy coaching against the club and family he left.

Meanwhile, the Lady Greyhounds arc is just getting started. Rebecca Walton, Coach Beard, and Leslie Higgins all remain tied to Richmond, so a fifth season would have no shortage of threads to pull.

When Could Ted Lasso Season 5 Release?

Why 2027 or 2028 Is the Earliest Window

If Apple renews soon, late 2027 is the earliest realistic premiere — with 2028 possible depending on production schedules and cast availability. Season 4 took over three years to follow season 3, but that gap included a full creative reset. A season 5 continuing the women’s-team story should move faster, since the new ensemble and arcs are already established.

What Season 5 Could Be About

The Lady Greyhounds’ rise is the clearest foundation: a promotion push with Ted mentoring a young squad. Off the pitch, Roy at Chelsea writes itself, while Keeley balances new motherhood with her PR empire and Rebecca charts the club’s next chapter.

Why a Ted Lasso Season 5 Renewal Looks Likely

The case for renewal is strong. Apple never marketed season 4 as the final season. Two senior Apple executives have spoken positively about continuing, Sudeikis has a stated plan needing seasons 5 and 6, and the show remains one of Apple TV’s most popular originals, as Radio Times notes.

The counterpoint is real: nothing is signed, and Lipsey’s “final episode” post shows some of the team are treating this as goodbye. Renewal odds look good, but they are no guarantee.

For now, all 10 episodes of season 4 are streaming on Apple TV — and Mike Flanagan’s Carrie series also dropped all eight episodes today on Prime Video.
