Baywatch Is Back: Stephen Amell’s 2027 Reboot Brings the Red Suits, a Wild Trailer — and a Megan Thee Stallion Cameo

The Baywatch 2027 reboot is officially making waves. Then Fox dropped the full three-minute trailer on October 13, confirming the red swimsuits, slow-motion rescues, and beachfront drama return in January 2027. Stephen Amell leads the new crew as Hobie Buchannon, Mitch’s grown-up son — and the biggest shock is a Megan Thee Stallion cameo.

However, Fox is not just banking on nostalgia. The 12-episode series pairs a new generation of lifeguards with a modern rescue procedural — and a guest list designed to get everyone talking.

Baywatch 2027 Reboot Trailer: What It Shows

First, the trailer opens with a plane colliding with a parasail, and Amell’s Hobie races into the surf leading the rescue. From there, it barely lets up. Meanwhile, a wildfire threatens the shore, a lifeguard tower explodes, and rivalries simmer between beach crews.

The familiar sounds are there too: the original “I’m Always Here” theme scores the trailer, and the slow-motion runs are intact. Fox’s tagline: “Same beach… new era.”

Finally, the biggest surprise lands around the 2:30 mark: Megan Thee Stallion appears in a guest cameo. It is one of several crossover casting choices aimed at pulling younger viewers into a 37-year-old franchise.

Baywatch 2027 Reboot Cast: Who’s Guarding the Beach

Amell, best known as Oliver Queen on The CW’s Arrow, steps into a legacy role: Hobie Buchannon, no longer the kid of the original series but now Baywatch captain. But the pilot’s hook is Jessica Belkin’s Charlie Vale. She arrives on his doorstep — the daughter he never knew — and wants a lifeguard job.

Actor Character
Stephen Amell Hobie Buchannon (Baywatch captain)
Jessica Belkin Charlie Vale (Hobie’s daughter)
Hassie Harrison Nat
Shay Mitchell Trina
Thaddeus LaGrone Brad
Noah Beck Luke
Brooks Nader Selene (rival territory captain)
Livvy Dunne Grace (acting debut)
David Chokachi Cody Madison (returning original)

In addition, the cast blends actors with internet-native stars. TikTok breakout Noah Beck, Sports Illustrated cover star Brooks Nader, and gymnastics phenom Livvy Dunne — who makes her acting debut — join the ensemble. As a result, the lineup reaches three generations of viewers at once.

Original Baywatch Stars Returning to the Shoreline

Meanwhile, David Chokachi reprises his role as Cody Madison (seasons 6–9) in a recurring capacity. His Cody now runs The Shoreline beach bar and mentors the new crew. In addition, legacy guests Erika Eleniak, Michael Bergin, and Kelly Packard will also reprise their original roles.

Behind the camera, Burn Notice creator Matt Nix serves as showrunner alongside Lara Olsen. McG directed the pilot. Fox Entertainment and Fremantle co-produce the series, which filmed on Venice Beach and the Fox lot in spring 2026.

Why a Baywatch Reboot Is Happening Now

Still, the timing is no accident. TV is in a nostalgia-revival boom. ABC’s Scrubs revival premiered in February and earned a second season. Hulu’s Malcolm in the Middle revival arrived in April, and this month Hulu ordered Ryan Coogler’s X-Files reboot.

Fox, meanwhile, has a track record here. The network previously brought back 24, The X-Files, and Prison Break — proof the revival playbook can work twice.

A Quick Baywatch History Lesson

Baywatch debuted on NBC in 1989 and was cancelled after one season. But Hasselhoff and the producers revived it for syndication in 1991 — and it exploded. As a result, at its 1996 peak, it drew more than 1.1 billion weekly viewers across 142 countries, a Guinness World Record (see the full Baywatch franchise history). It ran 11 seasons through 2001.

The 2017 film, starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, was a different story. Still, it was made for $65–69 million and grossed about $178 million worldwide. Critics were brutal: 17% on Rotten Tomatoes. It was an underperformer that only found its audience later on streaming.

When Does the Baywatch 2027 Reboot Premiere — and What’s Next

Fox has locked the premiere window at January 2027. However, an exact date has not been announced. Episodes will air on Fox and stream next-day on Hulu in the U.S. Viewers in the UK and Ireland get the series on Sky and NOW that same month.

So what is next? First, the official premiere date, likely within weeks. Then the marketing push — Amell and Nader have already promoted the series at MIPCOM in Cannes. Finally, the real test: can a new generation buy into beachside heroics the way the world did in the 1990s?

The trailer suggests Fox knows what it is selling — explosions, romance, rivalries, and those red suits. But the franchise works best when the lifeguards feel like family. The Buchannons are back on the beach. This January, we find out if lightning can strike the shoreline twice.
