Lindsay Lohan just gave fans the perfect gift for Mean Girls Day. On October 3, 2026, the actress recreated her iconic “It’s October 3” moment from Mean Girls in a short Instagram video — and fans are losing it.

In the seven-second clip, Lohan sits at a desk in a puffy dark jacket with a notebook in front of her. A man leans in beside her holding a pencil, echoing her classroom crush Aaron Samuels. She delivers the famous line, cracks up laughing, and winks at the camera. The caption was simple: “It’s October 3rd,” followed by a pink heart emoji.

The clip spread fast. Within hours, a repost had drawn more than 244,000 views on X, according to Comic Basics. And co-star Jonathan Bennett — the Aaron to her Cady — could not resist joining in. “This made me miss you two so much! This homo has fomo,” he commented on her post.

How “It’s October 3” Became Mean Girls Day

The moment lands about 24 minutes into the 2004 comedy. Aaron turns to Cady in math class and asks what day it is. “It’s October 3,” she answers. That one exchange turned the date into an annual ritual for fans of the film.

Every year since, October 3 brings a wave of pink posts, “On Wednesdays We Wear Pink” tributes, and favorite quotes across social media. This year was no different. “I hope your day is so fetch. Happy October 3rd to those who celebrate,” one fan wrote on Threads. It was a nod to Gretchen Wieners’ doomed bid to make “fetch” happen. Another joked about the passage of time: “Mean Girls is 22 years old. Want to feel old?”

However, the film’s hold on pop culture is remarkable. Written by Tina Fey and directed by Mark Waters, the Paramount comedy premiered in April 2004 and grossed more than $130 million worldwide. Since then it has spawned a Broadway musical and a 2024 movie musical adaptation — proof that the Plastics’ rules still apply.

Lohan’s Mean Girls Day Tradition Continues

This is not the first time Lohan has marked the date herself. In 2015, she posted a screenshot of the classroom scene on Instagram. Three years later, she recreated the exchange in a short video with her brother Dakota. Then in 2021, Bennett asked her “What day is it?” and she happily replied, “It’s October 3rd.” Finally, in 2024, she celebrated the film’s 20th anniversary of the date alongside Lacey Chabert. The pair were promoting their Netflix holiday movies at the time.

Each year, her tribute pulls fans right back to North Shore High. At 40, Lohan seems to enjoy the connection as much as ever — and her laugh in this year’s clip says it all.

A Full-Circle Moment in Her Career Comeback

The timing feels right. Lohan has spent the past few years rebuilding her screen career, and the wins keep coming. After the Netflix holiday hit Our Little Secret (2024), she reunited with Jamie Lee Curtis for Freakier Friday (2025), the sequel to their 2003 body-swap comedy. Earlier this year, CinemaCon honored her with the Vanguard Award for her big-screen achievements.

Mean Girls made her one of the defining young stars of the 2000s. Two decades later, she is still the face of its most beloved line — and she clearly loves it that way.

Fans React to the Mean Girls Day Video

Reactions poured in within minutes. Fans called the video a perfect full-circle moment and the best possible way to start October 3. Many admitted they still quote the line every year. Others simply wore pink and rewatched the movie — the two sacred traditions of the day.

Why One Movie Line Still Matters 22 Years Later

Few films get their own holiday. The “It’s October 3” line works because it belongs to everyone now — a shared reference that needs no explanation. Lohan could have ignored it, but instead she has turned the date into a yearly love letter to the fans who made it famous.

So here is your excuse: rewatch the movie, wear something pink, and say the line out loud. After all, it is October 3 — and Gretchen was right. Fetch did happen.

Elsewhere in pop culture this week: Zach Bryan made a statement at Gillette Stadium, Taylor Swift debuted a new look while celebrating a chart milestone, and fans paid tribute to TikTok star Brooke Eby.
