Tom Brady Explains His Hilarious Live Fox Sports Audio Blooper

Tom Brady’s audio issue during Sunday’s Fox broadcast had a hilariously simple cause — and it was entirely his own fault. The seven-time Super Bowl champion dropped his oversized research board right onto the booth’s talkback button, cutting his own audio live on air during the Rams–Eagles game.

The blooper happened during Fox’s Week 4 telecast on October 4, 2026. Brady was breaking down a play when his sound suddenly cut out. His broadcast partner Kevin Burkhardt covered the gap smoothly, then later asked Brady to explain himself on air. Brady owned the mistake completely, and the clip quickly went viral.

What Caused the Tom Brady Audio Issue?

So what exactly caused the Tom Brady audio issue? Brady explained it himself a short time later. He had brought a large board packed with notes into the booth. At some point during the game, he dropped the board directly onto the talkback button. As a result, he lost his connection to the production team and could not hear anyone.

“Okay. My fault. I have this big clunky board which I have all this information about what I want to say all day, and I dropped it on the talkback button,” Brady said with a laugh, holding the board up for the camera. He added that he sat there wondering why he could not hear his colleagues — and then realized the culprit was sitting right in front of him.

“It’s my fault the whole time,” Brady admitted. “That’s like a quarterback owning up to his mistake.” The talkback button lets commentators speak privately with their production team off the air, so hitting it by accident routed his headset away from the people he needed to hear.

Kevin Burkhardt Puts Brady on the Spot

Burkhardt handled the glitch like a seasoned pro. When Brady’s audio first dropped, he calmly told viewers, “Sorry, Tom, little mic issue. We’ll get back to that and show your protection lesson in a moment.”

Brady returned to the air quickly. “Alright, I’m back, everyone, had a little technical difficulties,” he said. But Burkhardt was not finished. Later in the broadcast, he asked his partner point-blank: “Do you want to fess up the mic issue?”

Instead of dodging, Brady confessed with a big grin. Fox Sports shared the moment on social media with the caption, “Now that’s a QB owning up to his mistake.” Fans ate it up, and the clip spread across sports media within hours.

The Wild Game Behind the Blooper

The audio issue was not even the wildest part of the broadcast. The Los Angeles Rams stunned the Philadelphia Eagles 24-20 at Lincoln Financial Field, storming back from a 20-10 fourth-quarter deficit. Running back Kyren Williams scored both of LA’s late touchdowns and earned Brady’s “LFG Player of the Game” honor.

Philadelphia’s collapse was stunning. The Eagles led by 10 points late and could not close out the win, falling to 2-2 on the season. For more on the NFL weekend, check out our NFL Week 3 Sunday live scores and updates hub.

Brady’s Colorful Third Season in the Booth

Brady is now in his third season as Fox’s lead NFL analyst after signing a reported 10-year, $375 million deal in 2022. His commentary has become appointment viewing — and not only for his football insight.

In recent weeks, Brady has delivered a string of viral “Brady-isms.” Fox Sports even released a highlight reel of them on October 1, featuring his infamous “piss missile” call and his description of a bad Justin Herbert throw as a “meatball sub.”

It has been an eventful year across NFL broadcast booths. Tony Romo and CBS Sports recently parted ways, which shook up the announcing landscape.

Even veteran analysts admit the booth has a steep learning curve. Cris Collinsworth once said, “I had no idea what I was doing. No idea what the talk-back button was.” For example, Brady just learned that lesson live on national television.

What’s Next for Brady on Fox

The good news is that the blooper only made Brady more likable. Fans love an athlete who can laugh at himself, and Brady did exactly that. His honest reaction turned a technical glitch into one of the most shared sports clips of the weekend.

Brady will be back in the Fox booth next week. If his notes board stays far away from the talkback button, the broadcast should run smoothly. But honestly, viewers might be hoping for one more blooper.
