Dani Carvajal, a Spanish professional footballer for Real Madrid and the Spain national team, garnered religious speculations where some claimed him to be Jewish, whereas others called him a Christian player.
He is considered one of the greatest right-backs of his generation. He has won 26 major trophies at Real Madrid, including four La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey titles, and a joint record of six Champions League wins.
Daniel Carvajal Ramos, the son of a National Police inspector, was born on January 11, 1992, in Leganes, Spain. At age 10, he joined Real Madrid’s youth team and climbed through the ranks until he reached Real Madrid Castilla in 2010.
After failing to make a single appearance for Real’s first team, he signed a five-year contract with Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen for a transfer fee of €5 million on July 11, 2012. He debuted in a winning game against SC Freiburg and was named to the Team of the Week. Later, he was selected as one of the three best right-backs at the end of his first and only season.
Moreover, Real Madrid noticed his outstanding performances and exercised their buy-back option on June 3, 2013. He won the 2011 European Championship with the under-19 team and the 2013 edition with the under-21 team at the youth international level.
As a senior, he represented the nation at the FIFA World Cup and was part of the Spanish squad that won the UEFA European Championship.
Dani Carvajal Hasn’t Opened Up About His Religion
Dani Carvajal has remained silent about his religion and faith, unlike other athletes. Thus, his silence led netizens to speculate more about his religion. According to fans from the BigSoccer in 2022, he is Jewish.
There have been many conversations on Reddit and X (Twitter) about his potential Jewish connection. These rumors originate from a well-known Spanish Carvajal Jewish family. Spaniards associate the Carvajal name with the deceased Jewish martyr Luis de Carvajal the Younger.
However, some sources, like Jew Or Not Jew, claimed he was not Jewish and ridiculed netizens’ speculations about his Judaism faith. His religion remains a mystery, and no official confirmations about his faith exist.
Dani married Daphne Cañizares and has a son. His wife’s sister Melanie is married to Carvajal’s former Madrid teammate Joselu.
Furthermore, the professional footballer addressed concerns surrounding racism in Spain when Vinicius Jr. opened up about his experience with abuse in an emotional media conference. He defended Spain against racism allegations and shared his experience growing up in a humble Spanish neighborhood without color discrimination.
I don’t believe that Spain is a racist country. I come from a humble neighborhood in Leganés, there has never been any problem… I have friends of a different skin color, and there has never been a problem.
Dani also pointed out his country’s high level of integration and diversity and condemned any racism. He mentioned those responsible for such heinous activities should be barred from football stadiums.
Unfortunately, there are people who go to football matches to release their anger and rage. It’s a shame. Hopefully, those kinds of people won’t be able to enter stadiums because it’s the ugliest thing you see in sports.
His bold statement defended his country and addressed the need for the league to take action against racist fans.
