Just consuming ¾ cup of green beans or lentils every day reduces your bad cholesterol (LDL) up to 5%. Beans can also increase blood sugar levels in people who already have diabetes.
2. Oat:
Oats are very good for the health of older people because of a type of soluble fiber called beta-glucan. Soluble fiber binds with cholesterol during digestion and allows it to get out of a person’s body. Consume at least three grams of beta-glucans every day to reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol by 5-10%.
3. Apple:
Apples can reduce the risk of diabetes by helping to regulate blood sugar levels. It contains an average of five grams of fiber, which can reduce cholesterol. Apples also contain a substance called quercetin which is known to reduce blood pressure and is a reliable source of vitamin C, potassium and antioxidants.
4. Beans:
Research has shown that consuming an ounce of nuts every day reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke by 28%. It doesn’t have to be expensive beans, any variety you like can consume, including beans that are much more affordable.
5. Green vegetables:
Recent research has shown that people who eat lots of green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, or collard have the same cognitive abilities as people who are 11 years younger who rarely eat these foods.
