Taurean Prince, a Muslim American professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks, talked about fasting for Ramadan in a post-game interview. His Muslim faith sparked a spotlight when he broke his Ramadan fast mid-game.
Born on March 22, 1994, in San Marcos, Texas, Taurean Waller-Prince is a devoted Muslim and dedicates his time and prayers to Allah. He began playing basketball under head coach Jim Weaver at Earl Warren High School in San Antonio, Texas.
He chose to play college basketball for the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds but switched to Baylor University in Waco, Texas. During his sophomore season, he was on the Big 12 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, earned all-conference honors, and won the Big 12 Sixth Man Award.
The Utah Jazz selected him with the 12th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft, but his rights were traded to the Atlanta Hawks on July 7, 2016. He signed his rookie-scale contract with the Hawks on July 15 and became the first Hawks rookie to reach double figures in his first four playoff games since Pete Maravich did it in five straight in 1971.

Taurean, the son of Anthony and Tamiyko Prince, came from a low financial background. His family underwent financial trouble and had difficulty making ends meet when he was a child.
Anthony didn’t have a stable job and worked numerous low-paying jobs to support his family financially. Despite the hard work, they couldn’t afford a decent home and were forced to stay at the Salvation Army Shelter at night.
The Milwaukee Bucks power forward grew up to become responsible and accountable for the entire family. He also took care of his sister, Catina, and contributed to his family’s economy through his basketball skills.
