Stephanie Izard is an American chef and television personality who became the first female chef to win Bravo’s Top Chef during its fourth season. She has embraced a balanced lifestyle to maintain her health.

Growing up in Stamford, Connecticut, her parents instilled in her an interest in food. She earned a sociology degree from the University of Michigan in 1998 and graduated from the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Scottsdale in 1999.

After graduation, she worked at various locations before returning to Chicago in 2001 and working as a garde manager at Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Vong. Later, she became a tournant at Shawn McClain’s Spring and then as sous chef at Dale Levitski’s La Tache.

Stephanie opened her first restaurant, Scylla, in 2004 at 27. The restaurant is named after the Greek mythological creature Scylla. Although it was included in the “Ten Best Small U.S. Restaurants” from Bon Appétit, she closed Scylla in August 2007.

After winning Top Chef, she opened Girl and the Goat in Chicago’s West Loop, partnering with Kevin Boehm and Rob Katz of the BOKA Restaurant Group.

She published her first cookbook, Girl in the Kitchen, in October 2011 and launched This Little Goat, a line of bottled sauces and spice mixes in 2016.
